Official Business Account Status

An Official Business Account (OBA) is a Meta designation shown as a green checkmark next to your business name in WhatsApp.

What the badge looks like

When a phone number has Official Business Account status, customers see a green checkmark next to your verified business name in the WhatsApp chat header, contact list, and search results. The badge signals to recipients that the business behind the number is a legitimate, vetted company.

How it’s granted

Official Business Account status is granted by Meta, not something you apply for directly in Octopods or in a form on Meta’s side. Meta evaluates a combination of factors on your WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) and its phone numbers, including:

  • Business verification — the WABA has completed Meta’s business verification and is in the Verified state.

  • Brand recognition — the business has a meaningful public presence outside WhatsApp.

  • Account health — the phone number has a positive quality rating and a clean sending history.

  • Compliance — the business follows WhatsApp’s Business and Commerce policies.

Meta reviews eligible accounts and decides whether to grant the badge. There’s no formal appeal if a number doesn’t receive the status — the best path is to complete business verification, keep quality ratings high, and continue sending compliant, well-targeted messages.

Checking status in Octopods

Octopods tracks each phone number’s Official Business Account flag as part of its metadata. When a number has the status, it’s indicated alongside the phone number’s other attributes in the WhatsApp Setup dashboard.

  1. Open the workspace.

  2. Go to Channels and open the WhatsApp Setup page (via Add Channel → WhatsApp).

  3. Locate the phone number you’re checking.

  4. Press Sync to refresh status from Meta if you suspect the information is stale.

Note: Meta may not publish detailed reasons for granting or not granting Official Business Account status. If the status unexpectedly changes, syncing the number from the dashboard updates Octopods with Meta’s current data.

Why it matters

The Official Business Account badge can improve trust and response rates because customers see a clear signal that the number represents a vetted business. It does not directly change messaging limits, template approval, or pricing — those are governed by your WABA’s business verification status and messaging tier.

If you don’t see the badge yet

If your phone number is not showing Official Business Account status and you’d like it to:

  1. Complete business verification on the WABA inside Meta Business Portfolio.

  2. Keep your number’s quality rating at Green.

  3. Send only opted-in, relevant messages that follow Meta’s Business and Commerce policies.

  4. Maintain a visible brand presence outside WhatsApp (website, social presence, customer-facing materials that tie back to the business name).

Meta re-evaluates accounts over time. There’s no fixed timeline for receiving the badge.
