WhatsApp Templates Dashboard

The Message Templates dashboard is where you review every template tied to a WhatsApp channel, see its status, and create new ones.

Written by Tarek Khalil

Opening the dashboard

  1. Sign in to Octopods.

  2. Open the workspace that contains your WhatsApp channel.

  3. Go to Channels.

  4. Open the WhatsApp channel for the phone number whose templates you want to manage.

  5. In the Channel Actions card, press Manage Templates.

The page is titled Message Templates, with the subtitle Manage your WhatsApp message templates for proactive messaging.

What the dashboard shows

The main table lists every template on the WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) that owns this channel. The columns are:

  • Name — the template’s identifier (lowercase, underscores, for example order_confirmation).

  • Body — a preview of the message body.

  • Language — the language the template was submitted in.

  • Status — Meta’s review status for the template.

  • Active — whether the template is currently enabled for sending in Octopods.

  • Actions — links to open the template’s detail page.

Status badges

Each template’s status is shown as a badge in the Status column. The most common cases:

  • Pending — amber. The template is queued for review.

  • Rejected — red. Meta denied the template. Open it to read the review note.

  • Other statuses (Accepted, Under review, Needs modification, Deleted) appear in a neutral badge.

The full list of Meta statuses — Pending, Under review, Accepted, Rejected, Needs modification, and Deleted — is explained in Template Approval and Status.

Active vs. inactive

Alongside the Meta status, each template has an Active flag that controls whether it’s available for sending from Octopods:

  • Enabled — green. The template can be used in proactive messages, broadcasts, and direct sends.

  • Disabled — red. The template is hidden from send flows. Useful for retiring templates without deleting them.

Toggle a template between Enabled and Disabled from its detail page.

Opening a template

Press View in the Actions column to open the detail page for a template. The detail page shows:

  • Template name at the top.

  • Creation date.

  • Active status — Enabled or Disabled, with a toggle button.

  • A WhatsApp-style preview of how the message will look to recipients, including the header, body, footer, and buttons.

  • A Template Information panel listing the language, status, creation date, and active state.

  • ActionsDeactivate Template (red) when active, or Activate Template (green) when inactive.

Creating a new template

Press New Template in the top right of the dashboard. You’ll land on the New WhatsApp Template page described in Creating WhatsApp Templates.

Syncing templates

A Template Sync Information card sits at the top of the page with a Sync Templates button. Octopods automatically syncs templates from your provider every 3 hours, but you can press Sync Templates at any time to pull the latest status for every template on the WABA — useful when an email says a template was approved but the dashboard still shows Pending.

Empty state

If no templates have been created on the WABA yet, the dashboard shows a message reading No templates yet with a prominent New Template button to get started.
