Installing the Browser Extension

Install Reach from the Chrome Web Store, pin it to your toolbar, and open it as a side panel beside your Intercom tab.

Before you install

Reach is a Chrome extension. You’ll need:

  • A recent version of Google Chrome (Chrome 114 or later).

  • An active Intercom account that is connected to Octopods.

Note: Reach runs inside Chrome’s side panel. It does not work on browsers that do not support the Chrome side panel feature.

Install Reach from the Chrome Web Store

  1. Open the Octopods Reach listing on the Chrome Web Store.

  2. Click Add to Chrome on the extension’s listing page.

  3. Review the permissions Chrome shows you, then click Add extension to confirm.

  4. Wait a few seconds for Chrome to finish installing. You’ll see a confirmation message when the extension is ready.

Pin the extension to your toolbar

After installation, the Reach icon lives in Chrome’s extensions menu. Pinning it to your toolbar makes it easier to open:

  1. Click the Extensions puzzle icon in the top-right corner of Chrome.

  2. Find Octopods Reach in the list of installed extensions.

  3. Click the pin icon next to its name.

The Reach icon now appears in your Chrome toolbar at all times.

Open Reach for the first time

  1. Open a new tab and navigate to your Intercom workspace.

  2. Click the Octopods Reach icon in your Chrome toolbar. The tooltip reads Open Reach.

  3. Chrome opens the Reach side panel on the right side of your browser window, alongside your Intercom tab.

The first time you open Reach you’ll see the welcome screen with the Sign in with Intercom button. Move on to signing in to finish setting up the extension.

Keeping Reach open alongside Intercom

The side panel stays open even as you click around inside Intercom. It reloads the contact information as you move between records. You do not need to click the toolbar icon again unless you close the side panel.

To close Reach, click the X in the side panel’s header. To reopen it, click the Reach icon in your toolbar.

Tip: If the side panel ever feels too narrow, you can drag the divider between Reach and your Intercom tab to give Reach more room.
