Signing In to Reach

Sign in to Reach using your existing Intercom account — no separate Octopods password needed for the extension.

Written by Tarek Khalil

Install Reach: Get the browser extension from the Chrome Web Store.

Open the Reach side panel

  1. Open a new tab and navigate to your Intercom workspace.

  2. Click the Octopods Reach icon in your Chrome toolbar. The Reach side panel opens on the right.

  3. On first launch, Reach displays the welcome screen with the Reach heading and the tagline Proactive messaging for support teams.

Sign in with Intercom

  1. Click Sign in with Intercom on the welcome screen.

  2. A new browser tab opens for you to sign in with Intercom. The side panel shows Signing you in… with the note Complete authentication in the browser tab that just opened and a Cancel sign-in button if you change your mind.

  3. Enter your Intercom email and password in the new tab, then confirm that you want to authorize Reach to access your Intercom workspace.

  4. Close or switch back to the side panel once Intercom confirms the sign-in.

  5. Reach loads the success screen with a Connected badge, showing your name, email address, organization, and workspace. Click Get started to continue to the home screen.

What Reach does with your Intercom login

Reach signs you in through your Intercom account — you do not set or enter an Octopods password here. The extension looks up the Octopods workspace that your Intercom account is linked to and signs you in as the matching agent.

If your Intercom account is not yet connected to an Octopods workspace, you’ll see one of these errors on the sign-in screen instead of the success screen:

  • Workspace not connected — Your Intercom workspace isn’t linked to any Octopods account. Ask your team admin to connect the workspace in the Octopods dashboard, then click Try signing in again.

  • Workspace disconnected — The Octopods workspace this account belonged to is no longer connected. Reconnect it from the Octopods dashboard and retry.

  • Email already in use — Your email is already registered to a different Octopods organization. Ask the admin of the workspace you’re trying to join to invite you through the team management page, then click Try a different account.

Switching account after sign-in

Once you’re on the success screen, you can click Not you? Sign out to clear the current sign-in and return to the welcome screen. This is useful when another agent needs to sign in quickly on the same computer.
