How to connect your WhatsApp Account to Intercom, including onboarding your number to WhatsApp

  • Please do not skip any step, to ensure that the connection is successful.

  • If you don't have a number onboarded on WhatsApp, you can do so while connecting your channel as well.

  • Make sure you have a payment method connected to your WhatsApp Account.

  • Finally, ensure that you are subscribed to the Octopods WhatsApp plan. If you're not, click here to access your billing section.

Step 1: Onboard or Sync your WhatsApp Number

First, you need to sync your numbers you want to connect to Intercom through Octopods. You will also be able to onboard these numbers to WhatsApp and register them on Cloud API.

Start by selecting the WhatsApp Channel & clicking on Login with Facebook Business Manager:

Start the process and choose your business. Make sure that the login account has access to the business and its WhatsApp assets.

Select your WhatsApp Account or create a new one. You can onboard a new number to either accounts.

Optional: Onboard a New Number to WhatsApp

Create a WhatsApp business profile for your number, this is the profile that will appear to your customers when you contact them.

Write your new number and choose Text Message as the verification method. You'll receive a 6-digit code on your phone.

Final step is to register that phone number on Cloud API once synced to Octopods dashboard:

Step 2: Connect your Number to Intercom

Once you have your number synced to Octopods, you can activate that number to connect its messaging to Intercom by simply clicking on Activate Channel

And you can find the newly connected channel in your account dashboard:

Step 3: Add a payment method to your new WhatsApp Business Account

It’s done from your Facebook Bulling settings, like this:

After that you can start messaging customers immediately and only need to complete Business Verification when you are ready to scale business-initiated conversations or request to become an Official Business Account (OBA).

After completing the Signup you can immediately:

  • Respond to unlimited customer-initiated conversations (24-hour messaging windows).

  • Send business-initiated conversations to 250 unique customers in a rolling 24-hour period.

  • Register up to two (2) phone numbers.

WhatsApp Commerce Policy review

This review will happen in the background, after your account is already live.

The WhatsApp Trust and Safety Team will check for the compliance of WhatsApp Commerce Policy. They will also review your chosen Display Name.
