Before you start
You need:
A HubSpot workspace already connected to Octopods.
A HubSpot portal on Sales Hub Professional or Service Hub Professional (or higher). Custom channels aren’t available on lower tiers, and the connection will fail without one.
A LINE Official Account — the business account type, not a personal LINE profile.
Access to the LINE Developers console for that account.
Admin access to the HubSpot portal, with permission to grant additional HubSpot permissions.
At least one inbox already configured inside HubSpot.
If you don’t yet have a LINE Official Account, create one first at the LINE for Business website. Only Official Accounts can use the Messaging API.
Step 1: Prepare the LINE Developers channel
LINE uses the term channel for an app registered on its developer platform. We’ll call it a “LINE Developers channel” here to keep it distinct from a channel in Octopods.
Sign in to the LINE Developers console.
Create (or open) a provider — the business entity that owns the channel.
Inside the provider, create a Messaging API channel and link it to your LINE Official Account.
Copy the Channel ID and Channel secret from the channel’s Basic settings and Messaging API tabs.
Tip: If your LINE Official Account was created with the default Response mode, switch it to Bot in the LINE Official Account Manager so the Messaging API can respond to messages.
Step 2: Open the LINE setup in Octopods
Sign in to Octopods and open the HubSpot workspace.
Click the option to add a new channel.
In the Add a Channel modal, select LINE.
Step 3: Re-authorize HubSpot (if prompted)
If this is the first channel on the workspace that needs HubSpot’s Custom Channels permissions:
Click the re-authorize button.
Sign in to HubSpot and approve the added permissions — the ones that let Octopods create and manage custom channels in your HubSpot inbox.
HubSpot redirects back to Octopods.
Step 4: Enter your LINE credentials
Paste the Channel ID from the LINE Developers console into the LINE Channel ID field.
Paste the Channel secret into the LINE Channel Secret field.
Optionally give the channel a Friendly Name to identify it in the channel list.
Click Activate LINE Channel.
Octopods validates the credentials against LINE’s API and prepares a webhook URL for the channel.
Step 5: Pick a HubSpot inbox and activate
Octopods opens the channel detail page with a Select HubSpot Inbox section. The Activate button stays disabled until you choose one.
Pick the inbox that should receive LINE conversations from the HubSpot Inbox dropdown.
Click Activate.
Octopods registers the channel as a custom channel inside HubSpot, and the status changes to Connected.
If the dropdown is empty, create an inbox in HubSpot first, then come back to this page.
Step 6: Enable the webhook on LINE
LINE requires you to turn webhooks on explicitly.
On the LINE channel’s detail page in Octopods, find the Webhook Configuration section.
Copy the webhook URL shown there.
Return to the LINE Developers console and open your channel’s Messaging API tab.
Under Webhook settings, paste the URL and toggle Use webhook on.
In the LINE Official Account Manager, turn off Auto-reply messages and Greeting messages — otherwise LINE’s canned replies fire alongside your agents’.
Step 7: Send a test message
From a personal LINE account, scan the QR code on your LINE Official Account page, or search for the Official Account by ID.
Add the account as a friend and send a message.
Open the HubSpot inbox assigned to the LINE channel. A new conversation appears with your message.
Reply from HubSpot.
The reply arrives on LINE from your Official Account.
What’s different from Intercom
Compared to Setting Up LINE on an Intercom workspace:
Your HubSpot portal must be on Sales Hub Professional or Service Hub Professional or higher.
The first channel on a HubSpot workspace that uses custom channels triggers a re-authorize HubSpot prompt.
You have to select a HubSpot inbox and click Activate after the credentials are validated.
Group chats aren’t available. The Allow Group Chats setting applies to Intercom workspaces only.
Creating the LINE Developers channel, entering the credentials, and enabling the webhook are identical.
Managing the channel
View credentials and webhook URL — open the channel detail page in Octopods.
Rotate the Channel secret — if you reissue it in the LINE Developers console, the old one stops working. Re-enter the new secret on the channel detail page.
Disconnect — removing the channel from HubSpot’s inbox settings deactivates it in Octopods automatically.
Common issues
“Authorization failed because your account lacks access to the required…” — your HubSpot portal isn’t on a tier that includes custom channels. Upgrade to Sales Hub Professional or Service Hub Professional, or start a trial of one.
“Invalid signature” — the Channel secret doesn’t match the one in the LINE Developers console. Re-copy and re-enter it.
“Webhook not verified” — go back to the LINE Developers console and confirm Use webhook is on and the URL matches the one Octopods shows.
Messages send but don’t arrive — LINE’s Auto-reply or Greeting message settings may be intercepting them. Turn them off in the LINE Official Account Manager.
Replies stop sending partway through the month — your Official Account may have hit its LINE message quota. Check your plan in the LINE Official Account Manager.
