Signing In with SSO (Single Sign-On)

Single sign-on (SSO) lets you sign in to Octopods with a Google, Intercom, HubSpot, or Slack account — no separate password needed.

Supported SSO providers

Octopods supports SSO with the following providers:

  • Google — your Google or Google Workspace account.

  • Intercom — the Intercom account you use to sign in at intercom.com.

  • HubSpot — the HubSpot account you use to sign in at hubspot.com.

  • Slack — your Slack workspace account.

You will see a button for each supported provider on the sign-in and sign-up pages, above the email and password form. The buttons are labeled “Sign in with Google”, “Sign in with Intercom”, “Sign in with HubSpot”, and “Sign in with Slack” — and the equivalent “Sign up with …” variants on the sign-up page.

First-time sign-in with SSO

You don’t need to create an Octopods account up front to use SSO. The first time you sign in with a provider, Octopods automatically creates an account for you using the email address that provider shares.

  1. Go to the Octopods sign-in page. You will see the page title “Welcome back” with the subtitle “Sign in to your Octopods account”.

  2. Click the button for the provider you want to use — for example, “Sign in with Google”.

  3. Complete the provider’s authorization screen: sign in to the provider if you aren’t already, then approve Octopods’ request to access your profile.

  4. You are returned to Octopods with a new account, signed in and ready to continue setup.

Because the account was created automatically, there is no email-confirmation step and no password to set. You will always sign in with the same SSO provider from this point forward.

Subsequent sign-ins

After the first sign-in, using SSO is just one click:

  1. Go to the Octopods sign-in page.

  2. Click the same SSO button you used to create the account.

  3. You are signed in.

If you are already signed in to the provider in the same browser, the sign-in is typically instant. If you aren’t, the provider prompts you to sign in first and then returns you to Octopods.

Mixing SSO and email/password

An Octopods account is tied to a single sign-in method. If you created your account with email and password, sign in with email and password. If you created it with SSO, keep using that SSO provider. Trying to sign in the other way will produce a sign-in error because Octopods won’t find a matching account.

If you need to switch methods, contact the Octopods team.

Troubleshooting SSO sign-in

  • Wrong email on the provider. If your Google or other provider account uses a different email address than the one on your Octopods account, SSO won’t match the two. Sign in to the provider with the email you originally used with Octopods, or switch to email and password.

  • Pop-up blocker. Some SSO flows open in a pop-up window. If your browser blocks the pop-up, allow it for Octopods and try again.

  • Access revoked. If you previously removed Octopods from your provider’s connected-apps list, the provider will re-prompt for access the next time you sign in. Approve the request to continue.

  • Provider downtime. If the SSO provider is temporarily unavailable, you can’t sign in through it. Wait a few minutes and try again.
